Here we go…
After months of editing, planning, and quite a bit of learning, my website is finally live! Yay!
My site and gallery will be constantly updated work in progress, as I still have a ton of shots to edit and creative composites to make, but I want to get a foundation out there to build off of. Being a perfectionist and building a website for the first time is a challenging task, and I severely underestimated the amount of time, effort, and thought it would take. Funny enough, the part that was most challenging to get right was the text on the main home landing page. I played with all sorts of fonts, sizing, spacing, and colors and really couldn’t find anything I was happy with. It’s the main page of my website, and it has to be awesome, right? After trying to get it squared away last Saturday, I took a break to watch some MMA (mixed martial arts), which I am a huge fan of. I wanted to come back to the problem with fresh eyes after giving my creative mind a rest for a bit.
After the fights concluded a few hours later, I turned on my computer again and got up to get a beer (also a big fan of). When I was walking back to my computer, I happened to glance at the screen and noticed the overall outline of quote and text on my screen from a distance. The shape I had it in was vaguely similar to a mushroom cap. There was the solution to my problem! Put the intro text in the shape of a mushroom! Duh! A year ago I would have never came up with the idea, but I took a typography class last spring, and we did a bunch of assignments that involved creating graphic design using text. After playing with the spacing and alignment for a while, I found an arrangement that I absolutely love and feel perfectly represents my vision.
That’s all for now. There’s a big local photography contest that I’m entering this month (InFocus), and I have a few pieces that still need envisioning and editing. Talk soon!
